West Orange High School Students Get $50K Donation

Prospective West Orange college students are $50,000 richer thanks to a donation from the West Orange Women's Club.

West Orange, NJ – Prospective West Orange college students are $50,000 richer thanks to a donation from the West Orange Women’s Club.

According to a school news release, the donation was made to the West Orange Scholarship Fund (WOSF) to provide scholarships to qualified West Orange High School graduates in the form of an ongoing endowment.

“We are honored and humbled to continue on the great work of the West Orange Women's Club by awarding scholarships in their name,” said WOSF President Rich Rizzolo.

According to a release, the West Orange Women’s Club was formed in 1931 and has been “a positive force in the West Orange community for eighty-five years.”

In concert with the General Federation of the International Women's Club since 1932, the club's objective has been to “organize women for fellowship, service and cooperation and to be a potent factor in the well-being of the community,” according to a release.

According to school administrators, the West Orange Women’s Club has awarded over $74,000 in academic and community service scholarships to West Orange High School seniors for academic and vocational colleges over its history.

The West Orange Scholarship Fund was organized in 1923 and has awarded in excess of $1.1 million to West Orange and Mountain High School graduates for post-secondary education costs. For consideration, students must complete an application that reflects academic achievement, financial need, and community service.
