UPDATED: West Orange Middle School Temporarily Evacuated Due To 'Smoke In Classroom'
Students were safely escorted back into the building later in the day, West Orange administrators said.

WEST ORANGE, NJ — West Orange school administrators conducted a temporary evacuation at Edison Middle School on Friday due to smoke in a classroom, according to a school alert.
West Orange officials posted the following notice at 9:52 a.m. on Friday: “Edison Middle School students/staff have been evacuated from the building due to smoke emitting from the ventilation in a classroom.”

School officials provided an update Friday afternoon, stating that the situation "does not appear to be serious" and that precautions are being taken.
