WOPD officials said the department is “proud of the increase in diversity and female representation that this new class of officers represents.”

“May their careers be guided by safe decisions and an appreciation for their commitment to keeping West Orange the safe community that it is,” officials said.

The WOPD added:

“We are especially honored to say that all nine officers that committed to the academy made it through with flying colors, making our town look great in the process. Academy training is a challenging 22 weeks focused on physical health, emotional resiliency and a large array of legal and police topics from de-escalation skills to court decisions to traffic laws to implicit bias training to emergency life-saving CPR skills.”
