West Orange School Plans Memorial For Teachers’ Son: Henry Chang

The Mt. Pleasant Elementary School community will celebrate the life of student Henry Chang on Nov. 4.

WEST ORANGE, NJ — The Mt. Pleasant Elementary School community will be celebrating the life of student Henry Chang, the son of two local educators, who passed away in July following a battle with childhood cancer.

A special event has been scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 4 from 2 to 3 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Elementary School in conjunction with West Orange Township, school administers said.

"We will be dedicating a tree, bench and mural at Mt. Pleasant in Henry’s honor," said Julie DiGiacomo, principal at Mt. Pleasant School. "It’s going to be beautiful."

Henry is survived by his mother, Heather Young, an art teacher at West Orange High School, his father Henry, an instructional aide in the West Orange School District, his 5-year-old brother Derrick, grandparents, and many loving family members and friends.

The community is invited to attend the celebration of Henry's life, administrators said. Mt. Pleasant Elementary School is located at 9 Manger Road.
