West Orange St. Patrick’s Parade Draws Gov. Murphy, Rep. Sherrill

WEST ORANGE, NJ — West Orange’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade brought together community members from the township and Essex County to celebrate the local contributions of Irish-Americans last Sunday.

This year, the event saw appearances from Gov. Phil Murphy and U.S. Rep. Mikie Sherrill. Local leaders attending the parade included Mayor Robert Parisi, multiple town council members and the West Orange police and fire departments.

This year’s grand marshal was Carol Sharkey Corcoran; deputy grand marshals included Joe Fagan, Carolyn Diver Torchia, and Terry McHugh.

According to administrators, the West Orange School District was also well-represented, featuring appearances by board members Ken Alper, Sandra Mordecai, and Cheryl Merklinger, Acting Superintendent of Schools Eveny de Mendez, Principal Hayden Moore, the Marching Band, the Color Guard, the ROTC, the Boys Step Team, Girl Scouts, Brownies and Cub Scouts.
