West Orange Teen Follows Brother’s Footsteps To West Point

A West Orange family now has two links to one of the most iconic military institutions in the nation: West Point.

WEST ORANGE, NJ — A West Orange High School student has begun his journey to one of the most iconic military institutions in the nation: West Point. And he’ll be following in the footsteps of his brother.

On Friday, the West Orange Public School District announced that WOHS senior Colin Morgan received his certificate of appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point. Morgan will begin his journey as part of the Class of 2023 on July 1.

Morgan is one of only 60 New Jersey high school seniors offered admission to the prestigious military academy, according to school administrators.

“We are so proud of Colin here at West Orange High School,” Principal Hayden Moore said. “Colin represents the best of the best.”

As if having one member of the family receiving an appointment wasn't enough, Colin's older brother Chris “C.J.” Morgan is currently attending West Point and will graduate next year with the Class of 2020.

After moving with their family from Chicago several years ago, both boys attended Edison and Liberty Middle Schools, followed by West Orange High School. Both excel academically and in wrestling, and C.J. was also a star football player, school officials said.

“I'm very proud and excited to have Colin at the academy with me,” C.J. said of his brother. “He will definitely be a great addition to the long, grey line.”
