West Orange's Water Is Showing Improvement, NJAW Says

On Wednesday, New Jersey American Water (NJAW) issued a statement that the supplies of waters that flow through the Passaic Valley Water interconnect in West Orange - recently affected by an algae bloom at the source reservoir - are showing improvement.

NJAW officials stated that the odor is still above the threshold for geosmin, the organic compound responsible for the scent, but added that the situation is expected to improve as nighttime temperatures fall.

The water in question meets Federal Safe Drinking Water Act standards, NJAW says.
In addition, Passaic Valley is changing its blend of water so that customers in the area get less water from the North Jersey District Water Supply Commission interconnect that NJAW shares, the company stated on Wednesday.
