As I prepare for graduation, I reflect on my time at LIU Hudson at Rockland. This includes the experiences I have had in the classroom and the opportunities I was given. As an undergraduate student at a state university, classes often consisted of more than one hundred students. Therefore, it was difficult to make any connections with any of my professors or classmates. The large class size was often intimidating. However, at LIU, the largest class I was in consisted of only eighteen students. With smaller classes, I was able to form relationships with all my professors and classmates. Going to class was a pleasure and not a chore. I reveled in the one-on-one interactions with my professors and their eagerness to help me and my classmates achieve our professional goals.
While a student in the program, I learned various theories and counseling techniques that were applied during role-play scenarios in the classroom and also while at my internship. The quality of education I received while at LIU was remarkable. Professors provided in depth knowledge on various counseling theories with sophistication and shared their professional experiences with passion and excitement. Professors were willing to do more than what was required of them and were always available for help if needed. Everything in class was a notable learning experience. I was encouraged to take risks, and the classroom was always a safe place to share ideas and ask questions.
In the Mental Health Counseling program, I was provided with the opportunity to grow both professionally and personally. During my internship experiences, I was able to see how my personal growth positively influenced my professional growth. Self-awareness is a concept I rarely focused on before I came into this field. However, I quickly realized how significant and crucial the concept was especially in the helping professions.

I thank LIU for nurturing my professional development and my gaining confidence in my abilities to serve those in my community.
