Bergen Heroin Users Had 3-Year-Olds In Car: Police

Suzanne Laliberte, of Washington Township, and Joseph Corcoran were both charged with child endangerment, police said.

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ — A borough man and a woman had two 3-year-old kids in their car when they were using heroin in Hackensack Thursday, police said.

Detectives were checking on a report that the couple was using drugs in a car Thursday night when they found Joseph Corcoran and Suzanne Laliberte, both 35, and the kids in a 2005 Nissan on Blauvelt Place, Capt. Peter Busciglio said.

Police saw several empty glassine envelopes of heroin with "Captain America" stamped on them on the ground outside the passenger door, along with a hypodermic needle and more empty glassine envelopes of heroin on the floor of the car, Busciglio said.

Laliberte handed police two more hypodermic needles with suspected heroin residue inside and a clear bottle cap containing heroin, the captain said. She gave them to police after officers saw something protruding from her pants. She said they belonged to Corcoran, police said.

"That's all mine, I gave it to her to hold," Corcoran told police as he got out of the vehicle, Busciglio said.

Laliberte and Corcoran were each charged with child endangerment, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, and possession of hypodermic needles, the captain said.

The children were turned over to the state Department of Children and Families, who said they would be turning them over to their grandparents, Busciglio said.

Corcoran and Laliberte were arrested in Hackensack on outstanding warrants in 2014.
