Jr./Sr. High School Student Wins West Point Society Award

student Amanda Pirola was awarded the Dwight D. Eisenhower Award for Outstanding Leader of Character Thursday.

The award was presented by Washington Township resident Stephen Kalish, a member of the West Point Society of New Jersey. The award is given to a high school junior who exhibits outstanding performance in academics, athletics, community service, citizenship and leadership, according to Kalish.

"Amanda is an outstanding young lady," Kalish said.

Pirola is enrolled in four Advanced Placement classes this year and plans to take four more next year. She has also participated in the school's golf and track teams and will be a captain of the field hockey team next year, Kalish said. She has also been a member of the student council for three years and is currently the treasurer.

Pirola also participates in a variety of charitable causes like the school's Interact club and is a certified EMT with the .
