Locals Compete in NJSIAA Meet of Champions
IHA and Westwood Track and Field athletes compete in the State Track Championships, with Blue Eagle Tracy Picciallo taking home a Gold
Facing 100 degree heat, the NJISAA held the 2011 Track and Field Meet of Champions Thursday in Old Bridge. Among the championship talent were members of the and Track and Field teams.
The Cardinals of Westwood had a strong showing from their 4x800 relay team of Corinne Myers, Meghan Kocher, Gabriela Slozen and Dana Bianchi who led the majority of the race but missed making the finals by 0.15 seconds.
On the IHA front, the Blue Eagles had strong showings by Jen Pash in the 100 meter dash and Emma Perazzo in the Javelin. But the performance of the afternoon was Junior Tracy Picciallo who came in a heavy favorite in the Shot Put event and did not disappoint. Picciallo cruised into the finals with a 41.2 foot throw and once there unleashed everything she had, throwing a 46 foot Shot Put with her second throw. She then blew that length away and set a National High School Record with a 47.6 foot Shot Put and locked down her first State Championship.
