State Group Awards Former Westwood Coach

The New Jersey Scholastic Coaches Association inducted Bill Morrow into its hall of fame.

Former Westwood teacher and coach Bill Morrow was recently inducted into the New Jersey Scholastic Coaches Association's hall of fame.

Morrow was one of 35 coaches from around the state recognized by the NJSCA.

"It was a great honor and a surprise," Morrow said.

After he began teaching health and physical education at in 1975, Morrow coached track, cross country and soccer at different times during his career. He also served as the school's athletic director for several years and coached middle school track. He retired from the district in 2010.

Morrow said he wanted to coach so he could teach students some of the same lessons he learned as a student at New Milford High School.

“I had a wonderful experience all the way through my career with coaches that I had," Morrow said. "I wanted to give back because I had such a good experience."

Current Cardinals track coach George Glover worked with Morrow as a coach and fellow physical education teacher.

“He's got a lot of class," Glover said about Morrow. "He's always been a very calm and steadying factor.”

Morrow is still involved with scholastic sports. He now officiates track meets around Bergen and Passaic Counties.

“He's retired, but he's not that retired,” Glover said.
