These Bergen County Towns Are 2 Of The 'Snobbiest' In N.J., Ranking Shows

Home values and average income part of ranking methodology, website says.

Two Bergen County towns have been given a distinction that isn’t one to be bragged about.

While too often other Bergen towns are known for their income statistics, real estate market, or school systems,, all these have made Edgewater and Oradell the fourth and 10th most “snobbiest” town in New Jersey, according to roadsnacks.net.

The website took a look at New Jersey towns with a population of 5,000 or more, and created a point system to rank median home price, median household income, percent of population with a college degree, and a few other pieces of criteria.

Edgewater was ranked ahead of towns like Hoboken, Bernardsville, and Glen Ridge. According to the site’s ranking of Edgewater:

“This community’s real claim to snobbery fame, though, is not in its income or even its home prices, but lies in its academics.

Edgewater has more private schools per capita than anywhere else in the state and a college grad population of 72 percent. Plus, it’s home to the last remaining of 15 Carnegie libraries in New Jersey, the Edgewater Free Library.”

Another Bergen County town, Oradell, was ranked No. 10 on the list.

“As if the high income wasn’t enough to brag about (which surely some snobby residents do), Oradell is also home to wonderful cultural staples like the Little Firehouse Theater. No, this place isn’t snobby… but thinking it makes your hometown better than others, well, that is.”
