Westwood Library to Screen Oscar-Nominated Films

The first of the nine movies will be shown Friday.

The Westwood Library will be screening Oscar-nominated movies leading up to the Academy Awards on February 26.

The library has a license to publicly show films, and regularly does on the fourth Thursday of each month as a part of its "Real Art" program. According to library Director Martha Urbiel, the program screens art, foreign and other independent films that may not otherwise be shown in the area.

Urbiel said the Oscar-nominated films are being screened in response to the large numbers of residents wanting to borrow them from the library. Also, watching them with others can improve the the experience, she said.

"People can borrow them on DVD, but it's fun to watch them together as a group," Urbiel said.
