Westwood Teacher Who Sexually Assaulted Girl, 6, Won't Go To Jail

WESTWOOD, NJ — A former borough substitute teacher charged last year with sexually assaulting a 6-year-old girl will not serve jail time and will not have to register as a sex offender after pleading guilty to child endangerment, according to a NorthJersey.com report.

Ronald Kraus, 43, was charged in March 2017 with sexual assault by sexual contact and endangering the welfare of a child, the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office said last year. Authorities said at the time of Kraus' arrest that he "inappropriately touched" the girl that February in Teaneck.

He was also a substitute teacher in Westwood and Ridgefield, with no reported incidents while working for those school districts, NorthJersey.com reported. Kraus also taught in Mahwah, NJ.com reported.

Kraus pleaded guilty to the child endangerment charge and forfeited his teacher license and submitted to sex-specific counseling, NorthJersey.com reported. He will not have to register as a sex offender.

Kraus told police that the child jumped on his lap and gyrated, which caused him to get aroused, according to the NorthJersey.com report.

The girl's parents filed a complaint with the Teaneck Police Department about five days after the incident, NJ.com reported.
