(nj.com subscription) — Wildwood Crest Borough School District, with just 187 students, ranks among New Jersey’s 50 smallest districts now under renewed pressure to consider consolidation. State leaders, including Gov. Mikie Sherrill, are eyeing mergers to cut costs, putting tiny, beloved neighborhood systems like Wildwood Crest’s squarely in the middle of a growing debate over local control and school taxes.
   

• Kitchen Fire Temporarily Shutters Beloved NJ Shore Restaurant (fireengineering.com) — Firefighters from Wildwood Crest helped knock down a pre-dawn kitchen fire that temporarily closed Duffinetti’s Restaurant and Lounge in neighboring Wildwood early Monday. The blaze was contained to the kitchen and ruled accidental, but the owners say the popular spot will stay closed at least through Wednesday while they assess damage and plan a reopening.
