1,121 Total Woodbridge Coronavirus Cases, 32 Deaths So Far
Woodbridge reported 52 new positive cases on Friday, the highest number of positive cases reported since the outbreak first began.
WOODBRIDGE, NJ — As of Friday, April 24, Woodbridge Twp. has 1,121 total coronavirus cases and has had 32 deaths due to the virus, according to Mayor John McCormac.
Most of those 32 deaths occurred more than a week ago, but have just been confirmed as COVID-related in the past few days, he said. Many of those who died lived in nursing homes/long-term care facilities.
Woodbridge reported 52 new positive cases on Friday, which McCormac said was the highest number of positive cases reported since the outbreak first began.

Last week, the number of positive cases in Woodbridge Twp. was decreasing and this week, they appear to be going up again, said McCormac. McCormac called the numbers "troubling" but also said it may not mean coronavirus is on the upswing, he cautioned. It may just be that more people are being tested.
For example, as Patch reported, the Edison Motor Vehicle Commission test site started doing rapid-results saliva testing last Wednesday, and is now testing many more people per day. The saliva testing can be done much more quickly than nasal swab tests, and results come back usually within 24 hours.

"There is no doubt that the number of tests being done has increased, especially with entities like Rutgers now offering speedy results from saliva testing," said McCormac.
However, it is also too early to interpret any of this data.
The state of New Jersey and Middlesex County have also reported higher numbers recently, with Middlesex County showing its highest daily total Thursday since the counts began.
