Factory Fire in Edison Tuesday Morning

The fire broke out in a metal can manufacturing plant early Tuesday morning off National Road.

Edison, NJ - Firefighters responded to a one-alarm fire in a manufacturing plant early Tuesday morning off National Road in Edison Township.

The fire broke out sometime before 6 a.m. at Silgan Containers Corporation, which manufactures metal can containers for food packaging and operates out of a single-story industrial building. The fire was confined to a large baking oven used to bake the metal containers, a fire official told Patch.

Specifically, the fire started in the filtration system of that oven, he said. It did not extend beyond the oven, he said.

The factory was open and in operation when the fire broke out. There were no injuries in the fire and Silgan employees were able to return to work once fire crews left. However, that oven remains non-operational, the official said.
