2 Woodbridge Police Officers Promoted To Captain, Sergeant

Capt. Edward Barrett grew up in Woodbridge and earned the rank of Eagle Scout in 1996 as a member of Iselin Boy Scout Troop 348:

WOODBRIDGE, NJ — On Monday, July 10 Mayor John McCormac announced the promotion of two longtime Woodbridge Police officers to the rank of captain and sergeant.

Edward Barrett was promoted to captain and Marco Bruno was promoted to sergeant.

Barrett is an 18-year veteran of the Woodbridge Police Department and is currently assigned to the Office of the Police Director, Internal Affairs Unit. Appointed to the WPD in 2005, Captain Barrett initially served as a Patrolman in the Radio Patrol Division and achieved promotion to Squad Sergeant in the Radio Patrol Division. In 2012, Barrett was named “Police Officer of the Year” for his commitment to law enforcement and public service to the community and was further awarded the Gold Medal of Honor from the New Jersey State P.B.A. for Heroism and Life-Saving Action.

Barrett grew up in Woodbridge and in 1996, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout as a member of Iselin Boy Scout Troop 348, Boy Scouts of America. With his new promotion, Captain Barrett will oversee the WPD Communications Division as the Division Commander.

Bruno is a 12-year veteran of the Woodbridge Police Department and previously served as a Patrolman in the Radio Patrol Division. He is currently assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division. Upon his promotion, Sergeant Bruno will take up assignment in the Radio Patrol Division as a Squad Sergeant.

“The public safety mission of the Woodbridge Police Department is our most important priority," said McCormac Monday. "As a result of our commitment to public safety, combined with the increased assignment of uniformed officers to street patrol, the Woodbridge Police Department continues to maintain police ranks at a maximum staffing level.”

Joining Mayor McCormac at the promotion ceremony was Woodbridge Police Director Robert Hubner, Deputy Police Director Joseph Nisky, Municipal Clerk John Mitch, Councilman Brian Small, Cory Spillar and Councilwoman Debbie Meehan, plus the officers and their families and friends.
