3 Carteret Roads Getting Speed Humps, Pedestrian Crosswalks
Portions of Jackson Avenue, Tennyson Street and Monroe Ave. will get speed humps, plus pedestrian crosswalks will be painted.

CARTERET, NJ — Carteret recently received a $681,405 grant from the state Department of Transportation Municipal Aid Program to make roadway and handicap curb ramp improvements along portions of Jackson Avenue, Tennyson Street and Monroe Avenue.
Expect speed humps to come to those roads, plus more signs and crosswalks to be added for pedestrian to cross, said Carteret Mayor Dan Reiman.
Those three roads in Carteret have a great deal of vehicular and pedestrian traffic as they are roads leading to schools, parks and churches and are heavily traveled by commuters in route to New Jersey Turnpike Interchange 12.

The condition of the roadways has deteriorated due to traffic, their age and utility cuts.
“To mitigate excessive speed issues, traffic-calming speed humps, striping, and signage will safely slow vehicles and improve roadway safety as part of the project,” Reiman said.

The project will be designed this winter, bid in the spring and construction should begin during the summer of 2023, said the town of Carteret.
The balance of the project will be paid for with municipal capital funds.
