WATCH: A 32-Year-Old Woodbridge Woman Is Contender For Trip to Mars
More than 200,000 people applied for a chance to live on Mars, but the list is now down to 100 people. Cassandra Morphy (see video) is one.

A 32-year-old Woodbridge woman is on the 100-name-long short list to go to Mars.
On her Twitter feed, Cassandra Morphy, 32, of the Keasbey section of town, describes herself as a “data analyst, sci fi writer and all-around geek,” and confirmed she’s a candidate to go to Mars in 2024.
More than 200,000 people worldwide applied to be part of a the Mars One mission, planned by a Dutch foundation, and that list has been narrowed down to 100 people, including Morphy.

“Yes, really going in real life,’’ Morphy wrote on Twitter.
Morphy said in a video (posted below) on the Mars One website that she wants to go to Mars because “it’s there.”

“Going to space has been one of my lifelong goals since before I can remember. Going to Mars has been one since I first heard the idea of colonizing,” Morphy said in the video.
The 50 men and 50 women were selected Monday. The list will eventually be cut to 24 people for the one-way trip.
