
WOODBRIDGE, NJ — Mayor John McCormac announced Friday the appointment of seven new police officers to the ranks of the Woodbridge Township Police Department.
The new officers successfully completed the state-mandated six-month New Jersey Police Training Commission program at the Cape May County Police Academy and will take-up patrol assignments in the Radio Patrol Division.
"The Woodbridge Police Department continues to maintain police ranks at a maximum staffing level of 225 sworn officers, effectively protecting public safety," said the mayor.

The seven new WPD patrol officers are:
WPD Officer Matthew Haggerty

Officer Matthew Haggerty, 22, a lifelong resident of Woodbridge Township, graduated Colonia High School and earned an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Middlesex College. Officer Haggerty formerly worked at the Woodbridge Community Center as an Ice Manager and as a substitute teacher in the Woodbridge Township School District. Officer Haggerty graduated from the Cape May County Police Academy and will take-up assignment in the Radio Patrol Division.
WPD Office William Klein
Officer William Klein, 33, is a resident of Woodbridge Township. Officer Klein is a graduate of Colonia High School and secured an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Middlesex College, where he also received a Certificate of Recognition for highest academic achievement in Police Science. Officer Klein formerly attended and graduated from the Camden County Police Academy and was previously employed as a Corrections Officer with the Middlesex County Department of Corrections. Officer Klein attended and graduated from the Cape May County Police Academy and will take-up assignment in the Radio Patrol Division.
WPD Office Brayan Rincon
Officer Brayan Rincon, 23, is a resident of Woodbridge Township. Officer Rincon was born in Colombia and moved to the United States when he was two and has resided in Woodbridge since 2003. Officer Rincon graduated from Woodbridge High School and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Rutgers University. Officer Rincon graduated from the Cape May County Police Academy and will take-up assignment in the Radio Patrol Division.
WPD Officer Anthony Mercedes
Officer Anthony Mercedes, 27, has lived in Woodbridge Township since 2010. Officer Mercedes is a graduate of John F. Kennedy Memorial High School and attended Middlesex College before joining the United States Marine Corps. While serving in the Marine Corps, Officer Mercedes held the rank of E4 Corporal as a Motor Transport Operator. Officer Mercedes attended the New Jersey State Department of Corrections Training Academy and was employed as a Correctional Police Officer at the Trenton State Correctional Facility. Officer Mercedes’ uncle was formerly a Police Officer with the Perth Amboy Police Department. Officer Mercedes graduated from the Cape May County Police Academy and will take-up assignment in the Radio Patrol Division.
WPD Officer Shivindra Singh Gour
Officer Shivindra Singh Gour, 29, has lived in Woodbridge Township since 2001. Officer Gour is a graduate of John F. Kennedy Memorial High School and secured a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Rutgers University. Officer Gour formerly worked as a driving instructor for All-Town Driving School in Iselin and is an EMT for Woodbridge Township. Officer Gour graduated from the Cape May Middlesex County Police Academy and will take-up assignment in the Radio Patrol Division.
WPD Officer Christopher Meyer
Officer Christopher Wayne Meyer, 29, has lived in Woodbridge Township since 200. Officer Meyer is a graduate of Colonia High School and has secured an Associate’s Degree in Physical Education from Middlesex College. Officer Meyer attended and graduated the Sea Girt Police Academy for the Juvenile Justice Commission and was formerly employed as a Juvenile Correctional Officer. Officer Meyer attended and graduated from the Camden County Police Academy for the Middlesex County Department of Corrections and was employed as a Correctional Police Officer. Officer Meyer graduated from the Cape May County Police Academy and will take-up assignment in the Radio Patrol Division.
WPD Officer Angel Rafael Martinez
Officer Angel Rafael Martinez, 37, has lived in Woodbridge Township since 2012. Officer Martinez is a graduate of the Perth Amboy Magnet School and has earned an Associate’s Degree in Engineering Science from Middlesex College. Officer Martinez was previously employed as a Police Officer with the Rutgers Police Department. Officer Martinez is a graduate of the Cape May County Police Academy and will take-up assignment in the Radio Patrol Division.
