The trial against her ex-boyfriend, Jordan J. Vilcatoma-Correjo, 32, began last week. A jury deliberated for two days before finding him guilty Friday of first-degree murder and second-degree disturbing human remains.

When her body was first found, four years ago this month

Shortly before 7:45 a.m. on June 10, 2022, Atlantic Highlands
Police responded to a 911 call from the area of Asbury Avenue between Navesink and Grand avenues.

A Honda Accord was parked on the street there, and Gonzalez’s body was found in the backseat.

Her body was covered in garbage bags, missing an eye and with signs that she had been strangled and subject to blunt-force trauma.

Vilcatoma-Correjo was also located at the scene and immediately taken into custody. He was criminally charged with murder for her death and indicted in September of that year.

Prosecutors say he had become increasingly obsessive, aggressive and threatening during the days leading up to their fatal final confrontation, where he killed her.

This murder investigation was done by the Monmouth County Prosecutor's office, the Atlantic Highlands Police Department, the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Edison Police Department.

Vilcatoma-Correjo was represented at trial by Michael E. Cirigliano, Esq., with an office in Staten Island

He will be sentenced in September.
