The Gateway Family YMCA proudly announces the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the charter for the Five Points Branch in Union, NJ.

The YMCA branch in Union was established by The Kenilworth, Roselle Park and Union organizing committees, and was chartered by the National Council of YMCA's in 1966. At that time, YMCA programs and events were located in an enclosed pavilion at the Five Points intersection in Union, prior to the current location at 201 Tucker Avenue.

While the branch charter was intentionally established in 1966, The Gateway Family YMCA had a long-standing presence in the surrounding community, providing programs and services in Hillside, Kenilworth, Linden, Roselle, Roselle Park and Union on YMCA historical records dating back to 1959.

Founded in 1900, The Gateway Family YMCA, formerly the YMCA of Eastern Union County, has evolved alongside the community it serves, responding to changing needs while remaining rooted in its mission to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive. From youth development and aquatics to wellness programs, housing support, and chronic disease management, the Y has remained a trusted partner and cornerstone of community support for generations.

The community is invited to join in celebrations throughout the remainder of 2026 with additional information and a schedule of events available at www.tgfymca.org/eventsCommunity members are encouraged to join online free in advance of visiting the Y to expedite entry and government issued photo identification is required for all individuals age 18+.

"While we are proud of our vast history and this milestone, we continue to look forward to a bright future," stated Jodi Pelano, Senior Executive of Branch Operations, The Gateway Family YMCA. "We are committed to building stronger communities and ensuring that the Y remains a vital resource. Our community partners, staff, members volunteers and Annual Support Campaign donors make our mission possible every day."

Throughout its history, The Gateway Family YMCA has expanded its reach and impact, offering programs that address critical community needs such as food insecurity, safe housing, youth mentorship, chronic disease prevention, and family support services. Today, The Gateway Family YMCA serves over 20,000 individuals and families annually across multiple branches and program sites, providing services that strengthen the social fabric of the region.
