Woodbridge Police Make Arrest In Child Custody Abduction

A man took his child from an Irvington daycare, and may have attempted to take a second one of his children from a daycare in Maplewood.

WOODBRIDGE, NJ — A man was arrested in Woodbridge Wednesday after he allegedly abducted one of his own children from either a Maplewood or Irvington daycare.

New Jersey State Police confirmed to Patch that they assisted Maplewood police with arresting the father today in Woodbridge. Woodbridge police Capt. Roy Hoppock also confirmed that it was a child custody issue, and that Maplewood police have taken the father back to their headquarters.

The child has not been harmed, and is with his mother now.

The man was apprehended in his Lexus at Mary and Woodland avenues in the Fords section today. He is not a Woodbridge resident. He took the child from a daycare in Irvington, and may have attempted to take a second one of his children from a daycare on Valley Road in Maplewood.

News 12 was the first to report this breaking story, and they reported that the child was abducted at gunpoint. So far, no police agency has been able to confirm that for Patch.
