Arson Suspected After A Woodbridge Playground Is Left To Burn
Woodbridge Mayor John E. McCormick addressed residents earlier Thursday afternoon, urging the public to help.
A fire broke out yesterday, August 1st, 2018 in the Sewaren section of Woodbridge. When firefighters arrived to the call of an “unknown fire” they were met with flames shooting from a children’s playground. That playground belonged to Matthew Jago School #28. It was constructed in August of 2008 for $250,000. It was the towns first “Boundless Playground”. (A fully-accessible playground designed to provide handicapped and challenged youngsters of all ages, skills and experience with many and varied play events.)
Police believe the incident to be arson and are asking for the public’s help. A post to the Woodbridge Police Department’s Facebook page is directed towards finding the “unknown suspect(s)”. Both the Woodbridge PD and Port Reading Fire Company #1 posted several photos showing the damage both before and after the fire.
Matthew Jago School #28 hosts Camp PACE during the summer months, the program is widely popular and well respected throughout the community.
