Berkeley College Goes Smoke Free

is going smoke free.

The business college on Rahway Ave. is launching a smoke free politch that prohibits smoking anywhere near the building, including on sidewalks and in the parking lot. The policy extends to all tobacco-related materials by students faculty, staff, contractors and visitors at Berkeley College. This ban extends to areas in and around college buildings or other college property. 

“This new policy fosters an environment that protects and sustains the health and safety of the Berkeley College community,” said Berkeley President Dario A. Cortes in a statement. 

Last year the college started sponsored Smoking Cessation tables and support groups for students. Berkeley College associates and faculty members looking to give up cigarettes can turn to the college’s Human Resources Dept. for assistance. They also plan to participate in the American Cancer Society's Great American Smoke Out in November.

“We all know the health risks of smoking. That doesn’t make it any easier to quit,” said Karen Carpentieri, Berkeley College Vice President of Human Resources. “We understand that one size does not fit all when smokers are trying to quit. Therefore, we have information on smoking cessation programs from Aetna, the American Cancer Society and the American Lung Association, as well as other resources, available to assist our associates.”
