Amazon Warehouse In Carteret Evacuated After Threat

A threat was received at the Amazon facility in Carteret, and the police investigation has even shut down Turnpike entry/exit ramps.

CARTERET, NJ — The Amazon facility in Carteret was evacuated Monday afternoon after a threat was received there, according to Carteret Police Chief Dennis McFadden.

The Middlesex County Sheriff department is on the scene with bomb-sniffing police dogs, said the police chief. And the shutdown has even affected traffic on the nearby NJ Turnpike at Interchange 12/Carteret-Rahway. All exit and entry ramps are currently closed to traffic as of 2 p.m. Monday.

As of 3 p.m. Monday, Interchange 12 in Carteret has been reopened.

"As a purely precautionary measure law enforcement authorities have evacuated the Amazon facility off of exit 12 on industrial highway in Carteret’s industrial district after they received a threat," said Carteret Police Chief McFadden. "The Middlesex County Sheriff's Department is on scene with bomb sniffing K-9s. No further information is being released at this time. All threats are taken seriously and are investigated to the fullest."

Hundreds of workers could be seen walking out of the Amazon warehouse as of about 1:30 p.m. Monday, reported NBC 4's helicopter, which is reporting from the scene.
