Carteret Man Killed Seconds After Snapping Florida Vacation Photograph

A Carteret man was tragically killed in a hit-and-run in Florida over the July Fourth holiday weekend. He was vacationing with his family.

CARTERET, NJ — A Carteret man was tragically killed in Florida over the July Fourth holiday weekend after he was hit by a car. It was a hit-and-run incident; the driver did not stay at the scene.

Miguel Soler, 58, was on a week-long vacation in Fort Lauderdale with his wife and son, according to the Sun Sentinel newspaper in Florida. His wife and their 13-year-old son witnessed the entire incident.

The family was on their way to dinner at a local Cheesecake Factory when the father, admiring the boats in the water, stopped the car on Las Olas Boulevard at about 6:30 Saturday evening and said he wanted a photo with the boats in the background.

He posed for a photo near a "Welcome to Fort Lauderdale" sign. His wife took the cellphone photo. He was hit as he opened the door to get back into the rental car.

The driver fled the scene and still has not been found. However, Fort Lauderdale police did find the suspected SUV that hit him. It had been abandoned. Read the entire article on the Sun-Sentinel.

Soler was supposed to start a new job on Monday, working out of the UPS center at Newark Liberty International Airport near their home.
