Carteret Reveals First Look At Its Proposed Ferry Terminal
For the first time ever, Carteret unveils how its proposed ferry terminal on the Arthur Kill would look:
CARTERET, NJ — This week, Carteret released the first rendering of how its proposed ferry terminal would look.
If all funding is secured and the project is seen to completion, the Carteret ferry terminal will be located on the Arthur Kill, and would provide daily ferry service to Lower Manhattan and back.
No construction has started on the ferry terminal, however.

Also this week, Carteret ordered its second ferry boat. This second ferry boat was purchased from Hornblower Marine of Bridgeport, Conn. for $9.8 million, in a contract through NJ Transit. This second ferry boat still has to be constructed, but once completed, it will seat 149 passengers.
Last January, Carteret purchased its first ferry boat from NY Waterway.

In November, a marine construction firm finished installing 130 feet of steel bulkhead along the Arthur Kill waterfront. That will be home to the future ferry terminal landing.
And dredging of the Arthur Kill began in late December. The dredging will make the boat slips deep enough for the ferry.
So far, Carteret Mayor Dan Reiman said he has brought in more than $46 million in grants from the federal and state government to build and open the Carteret ferry terminal.
“This is truly an exciting time for Carteret,” Mayor Reiman said this week. “Soon the ferry will safely and efficiently deliver commuters from Carteret and the surrounding area every day to downtown Manhattan and the Financial District.”
The final step will be building a ferry terminal building, which will have restrooms, bar, lounge, office space, restaurants and retail.
