Dogs Save Residents from Linden Fire

The barking of their dogs woke residents up to a fire on Helen Street in Linden Monday morning.

Linden, NJ - It was the barking of their dogs that woke residents up to a fire burning on Helen Street in Linden Monday morning, a Linden firefighter confirmed to Patch.

The fire broke out sometime around 7 a.m. Monday at 317 Helen Street, according to MyCentralJersey.com. The three-story building had been divided into several apartments.

Residents on the second floor said they were awoken by the barking of their dogs, and saw the fire. They called 911 and told all the other residents to evacuate the building.

When firefighters arrived, everyone was out of the structure, but heavy smoke and flames filled the second floor and attic.

The fire started in a second-floor middle bedroom, but the exact cause remains under investigation. The cold may have been a factor. There were no injuries.
