Edison Police Officer Saves Life of Fellow Juror At Jury Duty

Sgt. Michael Carter jumped into action to save the life of a fellow juror

EDISON, NJ-- Edison police officer Sgt. Michael Carter saved the life of a fellow juror while the two were waiting in the jury pool room of the Middlesex County Courthouse.

A 68-year-old man collapsed from an apparent seizure around 2:00 PM on Thursday while waiting to be called for jury duty. Sgt. Carter acted quickly, performing CPR while the sheriff's officers got the portable defibrillator.

“My training just kicked into gear. Thankfully, I was in the right place at the right time for this gentleman,” Sgt. Carter said in a press release. He is an 18-year veteran, working as the day-shift supervisor for road patrol.

“I am very proud of Sgt. Carter for stepping up to help this man,” Police Chief Thomas Bryan said. “Our department places a premium on training its officers. His swift, life-saving actions and professionalism are the clear result.”

Thankfully, the victim, who was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, is awake and doing okay.
