End of Iraqi War Focus of Carteret Memorial Day Parade

The Borough of Carteret, Mayor Dan Reiman and the Veterans Alliance will host a series of Memorial Day observations on May 27 begining at 8 am at the Carteret Waterfront Park located at the intersection of Roosevelt and Middlesex Avenues in Carteret. The event will open with the casting of the Memorial wreaths along with a veterans’ flag raising ceremony. After the laying of the wreaths, Carteret’s Veterans of Foreign Wars will host its own ceremony in front of the Carteret Library located at 100 Cooke Avenue.

The Veterans’ Alliance ceremonies will be held at noon at Carteret Park at the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial. The event will be followed by Carteret’s annual Memorial Day Parade at 1 pm at the Doc Fenick Clock Tower which is located by the Carteret High School at 199 Washington Avenue. The parade will end at the Memorial Municipal Building at 61 Cooke Avenue. The event will conclude at this location with a town barbeque.

The borough's website states that the ceremonies will focus on the end of the Iraqi War which took place from 2003 to 2011. The Veterans Alliance encourages Iraqi Veterans and all US military service personnel to participate in the parade. There will also be a veterans' dinner at the library following the culmination of the daily events.
