Enter the 10th Annual Young Playwrights Competition

The Theater Project, Union County College’s Professional Theater Company is accepting submissions for its 10th Annual Young Playwrights Competition. Original works of at least 10 but no more than 30 pages typed in play format may be submitted by students in secondary schools who are between 13 and 18. Entries can be either mailed or emailed but must be postmarked and/or received by January 23, 2012. Mail entries to P.O. Box 101, Union, New Jersey 07083.

The winning scripts will be performed in March 2012 by The Theater Project during its Family Week. The first place winner will receive a $600 savings bond; the second place winner will receive a $400 savings bond, and the third place winner will receive a $200 savings bond.

Submit a 10 to 30 page script to "The Theater Project, P.O. Box 101, Union, 07083 or e-mail submissions to the TheaterProject@aol.com. All entries must include a SASE (self-addressed stamped envelope), a 50 word biography of the author including contact information and a $5 submission fee which can be either a check or money order made payable to "The Theater Project." Remember to mail the check and SASE to P.O. Box 101, Union, New Jersey 07083 when emailing scripts.

Only one entry per student is allowed.

According to its website, the Theater Project is "...an award-winning affiliate member of the New Jersey Theater Alliance....The Theater Project offers...script development workshops, staged readings of new plays, audio-described performances for the blind, adult and children's acting and playwriting classes for the community, bilingual presentations for children, diversity and tolerance training and a young playwrights' competition."
