Historic Plays on Influential Irish Women Set for Thursday

Two short plays depicting the contributions of Catherine McAuley and Sister Frances Warde are scheduled for July 21 at 7:00 p.m. at the St. James Parish, 369 Amboy Avenue, Woodbridge. The two 30 minute one-woman performances each depict the accomplishments of these two Irish Catholic women who founded the Sisters of Mercy order in Ireland before bringing the order to the U.S.

McAuley created the Houses of Mercy in Ireland during the 1800s. Her organization provided shelter and job training to thousands of women. The efforts of McAuley’s disciple, Frances Warde ultimately created hundreds of health and educational institutions throughout the U.S.
