Metuchen, NJ - The Jersey Gas station right in downtown Metuchen caught fire just before noon Tuesday, Chief Robert Donnan of the Metuchen Fire Department told Patch. Jersey Gas is located on the corner of Main Street and Amboy Avenue.
Firefighers were called there at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, and encountered thick black smoke billowing from the front door and pushing from the eves. The fire had extended up into the ceiling space, burning the underside of the roof.
The cause was most likely electrical, Chief Donnan said.
