WOODBRIDGE, NJ — Four units in the Woodbridge Village apartment complex were badly damaged in a fire Thursday, and a total of ten had to be evacuated.
The fire started at around 11 a.m. at 1804 Village Drive, in the Avenel section of Woodbridge, said Avenel Fire Director Cory Spillar.
When volunteer firefighters got there, they encountered heavy flames. The fire started in a rear bedroom near a window. Volunteer firefighters also had to be decontaminated after fighting the blaze due to encountering possible human bodily fluids inside the home.

The apartment was empty and the owner was not home when the fire broke out. There were no injuries.
Spillar said it remains unclear what exactly caused the blaze. However, a total of ten units were left uninhabitable but six will likely be brought back online by Thursday evening, when the electric is turned back on.
