The Gateway Family YMCA Sponsors Learn to Ride a Bike Program

The Gateway Family YMCA is offering a free Learn to Ride a Bike program on Saturday, June 22nd at the Connecticut Farms Elementary School in Union, NJ. The program will be held from 9:00am through 11am and is free to the local community. This event is sponsored in partnership with the Township of Union Mayor’s Alliance Against Drug Abuse.

Participants must provide their own road read bicycle and helmet. This program is open to children and adults – all children must be accompanied by a parent. In preparation for the training event, no training wheels will be allowed and all bicycle seats must be lowered enough so rider can sit while placing heels flat on the ground.

“The Gateway Family YMCA works every day to promote healthy living. Bicycling is a great form of exercise, and bicycle safety is very important,” stated Paul Mickiewicz, Senior Director of Healthy Living at The Gateway Family YMCA – Wellness Center Branch, “Our goal is to show the children that they can have fun, get healthy and be safe,” stated Jodi. A. Pelano, Branch Executive Director. Paul is a League Certified Instructor through the League of American Bicyclists.

In addition to the Learn to Bike activities, a limited number of complimentary sling bags and refreshments will be available to participants.
