WOODBRIDGE, NJ — It's a theft that's about as low as you can go: Somebody stole more than $500 in cash, plus several checks from Girl Scouts selling cookies at the Woodbridge Center Mall this past Friday, Jan. 18, Woodbridge police said.
At 5:31 p.m. on Friday Woodbridge police received a report that a theft occurred from the Girl Scout cookie sales table, said Capt. Scott Kuzma of the Woodbridge police. The girls from Girl Scout Troop 80062 (the Girl Scouts of Woodbridge and Carteret) had been selling cookies near the Chick-Fil-A, located in the Boscov’s wing of the mall.
The woman who reported the incident said that between 4:20 and 4:50 p.m. she placed the profits from the sale (approximately $500 in cash, plus several checks) in an envelope. She placed the envelope on the table, left it unattended, and later realized it was missing.

"Honest to God, the good in my heart wants to truly believe this is a misunderstanding and he simply didn’t know or was aware of what he was doing," Jessica Medina wrote of the alleged suspect. She said the girls remained undeterred by the event and kept selling cookies at Woodbridge Center throughout the rest of the weekend.
"Today we clean our slates, remain positive and will be spreading love, laughter and cookies throughout our cookie entire season," she said.
Police have not yet made any arrests in the incident.
After reading about the incident, a stranger in Woodbury, New York started a GoFundMe page to raise money for Troop 80062: https://www.gofundme.com/girl-... However, she wrote on the page that the Girls Scouts of Central & Southern New Jersey contacted her and asked her to take down the page, as that type of fundraising is not permitted according to Girl Scouts USA.
