The parents of former New Jersey Gov. Jim McGreevey were held at gunpoint during a home invasion at their home in Carteret.

CARTERET, NJ — The parents of former New Jersey Gov. Jim McGreevey were held at gunpoint during a home invasion at their home in Carteret, Carteret Mayor Dan Reiman confirmed in a Facebook post Tuesday.
"Local law enforcement and the county will investigate this horrible incident. I can say that I have spoken with and checked on Jack and Ronnie McGreevey and the family," Mayor Reiman wrote. "They are obviously shaken up, but unharmed and in good spirits and look forward to the law enforcement agencies concluding their investigation to determine how or why they were targeted. We wanted to share this when it happened but obviously law enforcement needs time to investigate first."
The news was first reported by NJ 101.5: The home invasion happened this past Saturday, Aug. 18 and the suspects demanded cash and other valuables from the older couple. Their getaway car was found in Jersey City and at least one of the two male suspects have been identified.

“Members of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, in cooperation with other law enforcement authorities, are currently investigating a home invasion which took place in West Carteret. The crime was first reported to authorities on Saturday, August 18, 2018," Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew Carey told the radio station.
McGreevey was first the mayor of Woodbridge Township, and then New Jersey's governor from 2002 to 2004. However, he famously resigned after revealing he "was a gay American." It was later revealed he had given a top-level Homeland Security job to an Israeli national, a man, whom he had been conducting an affair with. McGreevey was married at the time.
