WOODBRIDGE, NJ — Pomptonian will take over as the new Woodbridge school lunch provider starting Nov. 29, the first day Woodbridge students come back from Thanksgiving break.

Woodbridge public school parents will get an email early next week (Thanksgiving week) telling them what the first week's menu will be, promised Mark Vidovich, Pomptonian president.

Vidovich said all this when he spoke Thursday night before the Woodbridge school board; watch below.

He said the company will come up with new menus every week.

He did caution that Pomptonian is dealing with the same supply-chain issues facing the rest of America right now, but said the food and ingredients for the first week's meals have all been ordered and are in hand.

Pomptonian was hired after the Woodbridge school district fired Chartwells on Oct. 1 of this year, after dozens of Woodbridge students said they were being served grab 'n go meals that were frozen or moldy.

New to Woodbridge school lunch this year is that the high school cafeterias will feature a local Woodbridge pizzeria daily; Pomptonian is trying to extend that to the middle schools.

There will also be vegan meals.

Pomptonian is currently recruiting Chartwells staff members to come work for them.

"We are looking for a lot of people," said Vidovich, who urged people to apply.

All the meals in the Woodbridge school district will remain free, at no charge to all students for the remainder of the 2021-22 school year, as per this order from President Joe Biden. This is to help families recover from the coronavirus pandemic. Patch apologizes for the previous reporting error.

Pomptonian is a family-owned business that currently has the contract to provide school lunch to 100 New Jersey school districts.
