Inmate At State Prison In Woodbridge Found Unresponsive, Died Sunday Night

An inmate at East Jersey State Prison in the Avenel section of town was found unresponsive in his cell and died Sunday, officials said.

An inmate at East Jersey State Prison in the Avenel section of Woodbridge was found unresponsive in his cell and died Sunday night, officials said.

Nicholas Tejeda, 47, was pronounced dead at 11:35 p.m. said Matt Schuman, a spokesman for the state Department of Corrections.

The state DOC is conducting an investigation into Tejeda’s death. He entered the state prison system in 2007 and was serving a maximum term of of 40 years for murder, said Schuman.

According to NJ.com, Tejeda pleaded guilty to two counts of murder.

According to court documents, Tejeda told police in Bergen County he thought his wife was having an affair.

He borrowed a gun from a friend in 2004, and when he came home from running errands, he found his wife and her paramour in the bedroom, the court documents said.

He got the gun, forced the two victims to kneel down, facing each other, and shot them both in the head, the court papers said.
