Iselin Teen Rejects 20-Year Plea Deal For High-Speed Death Of Edison Teen Girl

Mikael Salman, of Iselin, is charged with manslaughter and vehicular homicide for the death of Karla Gamero. He was fleeing police.

WOODBRIDGE, NJ — Mikael Salman, 18, of Iselin, had his first court appearance Tuesday, where the Middlesex County Prosecutor offered him a plea deal related to the death of Karla Gamero, 17, of Edison.

Prosecutors offered Salman that he serve 20 years in prison for causing Gamero's death; police say she died in a high-speed crash after he refused to pull over for Woodbridge Police.

However, Salman did not accept the deal, said a spokeswoman for the Middlesex County Prosecutor.

Gamero, a junior at Edison High School, was his front-seat passenger.

Woodbridge Police Officer Khari Manzini tried to pull the Nissan over because Salman was speeding, but Salman did not stop as directed, said the New Jersey Attorney General.

Instead, he continued at a high rate of speed down Rt. 1 and ran a red light. NJ101.5 reported Salman was going more than 100 miles per hour.

Seconds later, he crashed into another car in the area of Gill Lane. Gamero was killed. Her beloved pet dog was also killed in the crash. Here is her obituary.

The occupants of the car he hit were also seriously injured, as was Salman. All of them had to be hospitalized at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.

Salman is charged with first-degree Aggravated Manslaughter while Eluding, second-degree Vehicular Homicide, three counts of second-degree Aggravated Assault, third-degree Aggravated Assault, fourth-degree Assault by Auto, Assault by Auto (disorderly persons offense), third-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child, second-degree Eluding and Animal Cruelty (disorderly persons offense).
