Jail Time for Driving with Suspended License

A man who originally lost his license in Woodbridge drove anyway, and is now facing 18 months in prison.

A former Old Bridge man is facing up to 18 months in state prison after he was convicted Monday of driving while his license was suspended.

Giacomo Abrusci, 35, now a resident of Long Island City, was convicted in Woodbridge Municipal Court on June 12, 2013 for refusing to submit to a breath test. As it was his third offense related to driving under the influence, his driving license was suspended for 10 years.

But after that, Abrusci was caught driving on the Garden State Parkway on March 11, 2014. He was stopped by a New Jersey State trooper near the Cheesequake rest area and was unable to produce a valid driver’s license.

Now he’s facing jailtime, Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew Carey says, who says he wants people to realize how serious it is to drive without a license. “These laws are enforced to protect the public and keep incompetent drivers off of the road,” Carey said in a statement.
