Justice for Molly

giving a voice to animals that don't have one and to their pet parents that have been treated poorly during a difficult time

Complaint against Dr Alex Adler and Dr Barry Adler Woodbridge Veterinary Group Woodbridge
NJ--I brought my 1 yr 2 month old kitten in for a well visit to follow up on an issue she had as a kitten. She was showing NO signs of ill health or issue. She was active, eating well, playful. No cause for concern. I thought I was being proactive by “staying on top of things” as a pet parent. Her xrays of her lungs were extremely good in comparison to her as a baby. She really was fine, no issues at all. Dr Alex Adler told me to put her on Theophylline just to try it to see if it would have any effect of her health in a positive manner. I asked her what she thought and she said “sure, why not” Not once was there ever a discussion about side effects or possible problems. I knew my precious baby was doing fine so I did not give her the meds right away. I felt like she really didn’t need them but 10 days later I said to myself the DR knows best, Ill try it.. On Sunday 8/13/2017 at 7:15 pm I gave her a pill, within 45 minutes she was screaming in pain and panting heavily. I rushed her to the emergency clinic and she died immediately. Needless to say we are heartbroken. Molly died a brutal death in pain, screaming, defecating on herself and heart pounding out of her chest all because of the medicine I was given without any knowledge of side effects told to me by the Doctor. The Vet on call at the emergency clinic stated her death could have been caused by the medicine but there was no way to know and as we all know most doctors will not go against another doctor sadly. The emergency clinic cost $400 because of the negligence of Woodbridge Veterinary Group. We are devastated. Molly had plenty of years left in her life and I never should have given her the medicine because she was perfectly fine, I just did what Dr Adler told me to do “ just to try it “ The next morning I went to Woodbridge Vet 8/14/17 at 8:15am where I saw Dr Barry Adler. I explained the situation in my hysterics because of the devastating disaster that had occurred and he was unapologetic, took no responsibility and basically said “ hey, stuff happens” Is this what a Doctor and owner of a million dollar practice says?? I believe his nature was unprofessional, combative, hostile and heartless, he even walked away from me in mid sentence because he just couldn't be bothered. I requested all of my medical records for my other pets and he refused to give them to me stating that “ he was under no obligation to give them to me at that time, I could come back” He honestly had no interest is myself, my beloved baby or the mess that occurred as a direct result of this medicine which I truly believe without one ounce of doubt killed my cat. The receptionist was nice enough to give my records to me which took 5 minutes to do so why Dr Barry Adler was so against doing that is beyond me, Perhaps hiding something or just too much of a heartless Dr to care. Probably both. AT this time, I still have not had one bit of communication from Dr Alex Adler to even offer condolences and she was my vet for years. So now I have a $400 bill from an emergency clinic for which im not even asking for restitution and a dead cat that died a horrible death because of this medication that I was never given any information about other than “it might be a good thing” The whole point to this is shouldn't Doctors be accountable for their actions as well as their demeanor? Doesn't it go hand in hand? How can you look at someone that lost their most prized possession due to the Veterinary suggestion of meds in absolute hysterics and be indignant and turn and walk away from them while they are still speaking?? It's shocking and appalling. Although I have doubts that this complaint will do anything it is the right thing to do to make someone aware of misconduct, negligence and being mislead about the medicine and the repercussions of the side effects.. My husband and I are at a loss, not only financially but more importantly emotionally and mentally. I never had the opportunity for children in my lifetime so my pets have become just that. Losing a pet is just as devastating to those that do not have children because they are our children and this little girl was taken way before her time due to a medicine that was really not needed and in turn caused her death and the cold hardheartedness of a Doctor and facility that could have cared less.
