Large Fire Underway At Avenel Pool Supply Warehouse

WOODBRIDGE, NJ — A large fire is underway as of 6:45 p.m. Tuesday in Avenel, according to the Avenel Fire Department.

The fire was at Avenel Pools Warehouse, a pool supply warehouse, on Lord Street. It looks like the fire started on the roof, and having so many flammable chemicals inside accelerated the fire, said Woodbridge firefighters.

The fire is not thought to be suspicious.

"Be advised Avenel firefighters and multiple districts throughout the town are currently operating at a working structure fire at the storage warehouse on Lord St and Route 1 N," said the Avenel Fire Dept. "Multiple street closures. Please avoid the area and allow all the units to work."

The response is so big that traffic on Rt. 1 north in that area is very backed up at the moment.
