Major Parkway Lane Closures At The Driscoll Bridge This Weekend

Consider avoiding this stretch of the Garden State Parkway if you can.

SAYREVILLE, NJ— Drivers are in for another Parkway headache this weekend: half of the lanes at the Raritan Toll Plaza, just over the Driscoll Bridge, will be closed for road work, the NJ Turnpike Authority said in a statement.

Between Friday at 7:00 p.m. and Monday at 7:00 a.m., southbound local lanes will be closed for bridge repair. Drivers will be directed from the toll plaza onto the express lanes.

Traffic should be expected, and drivers should consider alternate routes, especially during peak travel times. You can check the traffic using one of the Turnpike Authority's live cameras.

The work will replace the deck of the bridge that crosses over Bordentown Ave in Sayreville, at milepost 124.3, just north of the Cheesequake Service Area.

The project is being done in a "weekend-long high intensity construction cycle" to avoid long term lane closures that could snarl the area for months.

Access to the Parkway from Route 440, Chevalier Ave, Riverside Drive, and Smith Street in Sayreville will be cut off during the roadwork. Detour signs will direct drivers to the Parkway South at interchange 117, by Route 9, Route 35, and Lloyd Road.

Parkway South Exits 124 and 123 will remain open.

Northbound lanes are not expected to be affected.
