WOODBRIDGE, NJ — A man was trapped inside his burning trailer and had to be rescued by the volunteer Avenel Fire Department Monday night in Woodbridge Township, according to the local fire department.

The man was pulled out of his burning trailer by firefighters and received burns. He was taken to a local hospital by an awaiting fire aid squad.

The call of the fire came in at 10:21 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4 at the Ideal Trailer Park community on Rahway Avenue, the fire department said in a Facebook post. When Chief Dan Mizak got to the scene, he saw heavy smoke coming from inside the trailer.

However, firefighters were able to contain the fire to the single room in the trailer where it started, and it did not spread to any other trailers, which were located close by.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Avenel Fire Department Fire Prevention Bureau, but Woodbridge police told MyCentralJersey that the man said the fire started when he dropped a lit cigarette on his bed.
