Man Sentenced For Exposing Himself In Perth Amboy Waterfront Park

PERTH AMBOY, NJ — A Perth Amboy man was sentenced Thursday to 10 years in state prison for touching and exposing himself in front of a group of children last June on the Perth Amboy waterfront, near the War Memorial.

The incident happened last June 24, 2018, at the Perth Amboy waterfront near the Perth Amboy Veterans' Memorial. Prosecutors say Antonio Nieves, 65, exposed and touched himself in front of a 15-year-old child and other children of varying ages.

Nieves was found guilty by a jury on June 19 of this year, for endangering the welfare of a child in the third degree and lewdness in the fourth degree.

He was sentenced to serve 10 years in a New Jersey state prison for endangering the welfare of a child and lewdness. He must serve five years before becoming eligible for parole. He also had prior convictions (undisclosed) and must register as a Megan’s Law sex offender when he is released.

Nieves, who also goes by Antonio Chaparro, was arrested and charged following an investigation by Detectives Luis Corro and Raymond Nolasco-Lorenzo of the Perth Amboy police.
