Man Trapped, Pulled From Burning Edison Home Monday Night

Flames were shooting through the roof of a home on Fairfax Road; also, three Edison firefighters were deployed to Texas this week.

EDISON, NJ — Firefighters saved a resident reportedly trapped in his burning home on Fairfax Road in Edison Monday night and the man had to be medevaced to St. Barnabas burn unit in Livingston. In other news, three professional Edison firefighters were sent to Katy, Texas Sunday to help with flooding rescue and recovery.

The fire broke out in a private home on Fairfax Road at about 12:50 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Edison fire department. It quickly rose to second-alarm status and when crews got there they encountered heavy flames. Firefighters did a search of the home and pulled one victim out, who may have been unconscious. He was reportedly trapped in his bedroom and was overcome by smoke, firefighters on the scene said. He was immediately airlifted to St. Barnabas Hospital, a burn- and smoke inhalation-specialty hospital, and his condition is currently unknown. Firefighters said he was in very serious condition when he was airlifted.

“About 50 minutes after 12 a.m. I received a call for a structure fire here on Fairfax Road. Arriving companies encountered heavy fire venting out the front windows and the sides windows, they did come across one occupant while they were searching the building and that person has been airlifted out to St. Barnabas Hospital,” Edison Fire Chief Brian Latham told Fios 1 News.

And Edison firefighters Capt. Joe Anselmo, Firefighter Allan Yourstone and Firefighter William Doherty were deployed to Katy, Texas to help with flood relief efforts, according to TAP Into. They were sent with the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management. They left from Fort Dix on Sunday and arrived in Texas Monday.
